Loss of connection in WLAN

Addition to the functional description
27/07/2012

Description:
The Siedle App has been started and is active in the background. It still temporarily fails to receive and signal incoming calls in the wifi. In the most unfavourable case, it can take several minutes until the App returns to its correct function.

Background:
The iPhone or iPad moves out of reach of the signal and so loses the connection to the wifi. Although the connection is automatically re-established, in the most unfavourable scenario it can take several minutes until the App is once again able to receive and signal door calls. This behaviour is caused by the terminals and their operating system: For Apps which users actively access, the connection to the wifi is automatically established again if required. For Apps which run in the background without user activity, logging back in can take several minutes. During this period, the App cannot be accessed.

Recommendation:
The App should not be used as the sole indoor station, but should be supplemented by an additional call station. This can be a Siedle station or a landline phone connected via the TC interface. We recommend that each integral residential unit is fitted with an additional call station which works independently of the wifi.

Version: from V. 1.0

Planned change:
As the reason for the problem lies not in the App itself but in the terminals, it is difficult for us to have any influence over repair of the problem.

Remedy:
If the server is connected to a TC system, if the App is unattainable, the call function is automatically activated: The iPhone is called from the telephone network.
The call function is not available for the iPad.

Functional improvement with V 1.2
06.12.2012

Description:
Occasional problems with communication using the app with the Access server have been remedied in V. 1.2. This fix has eliminated the sporadic program crashes which happened in the previous versions. However, it can still happen that the app cannot always be reliably accessed. According to our current knowledge, this applies to all apps which run in the background without active intervention of the user.

Background:
Correct function of the app cannot be guaranteed under all circumstances. It depends on factors such as the ambient application conditions and characteristics of the mobile terminal and its operating system. We are working continuously to improve both the app itself and its connection to the server, but there are certain factors over which we have no influence.

Recommendation:
Because the link to the door is of relevance to safety and security issues, the app should not be the only internal station. Mobile connections, whether via wifi or mobile telephony, can never achieve the degree of functional security of a link via a cable or DECT. The app should therefore be augmented by a further speaker unit. This can be a Siedle station or a landline telephone connected via the telecommunications interface. We recommend an additional speaker unit per closed residential unit, operating independently of wifi and mobile telephony.
Speech connection also over mobile networks

Functional upgrade with version 1.2
06.12.2012
table>

Description:
The new version allows conversions to be held with visitors at the door using a mobile phone connection. In the previous version, this was only possible in wifi. Video transmission and door release were already able to function using all connection types.

Remark:
The App uses the mobile phone network data channel. Some mobile phone service providers do not permit voice transmission over the data channel. Whether a connection is established depends on the conditions of the operator and naturally also the signal quality in the reception area.
Siedle is only able to guarantee that the app functions reliably.

Version: from V. 1.2

The function upgrade has been added within the framework of a free update which has been available in the App Store since December 6, 2012.
Update to V. 1.3

The update to V. 1.3 improves accessibility and also speech quality. The App is also compatible with the iPhone 5.
13.06.2013

Accessibility:
To prevent loss of contact in foreground and background operation, the connection to the server is permanently monitored and maintained. This closes a remaining accessibility gap.

Audio quality:
Improved echo cancellation has tangibly improved the app's speech quality.

Compatibility to the iPhone 5:
The new release is in conformity with a retina resolution of 1136 x 640. The app fully utilizes the larger screen surface of the iPhone 5.

Update to V. 1.3.2

The update to V. 1.3.2 makes the app compatible with the new Apple devices.
20.01.2014

Compatibility with new terminals:
The Siedle App will now be compatible with the iPhone 5S/5C and the iPad Air/mini with retina display.

Optimization processes:
- Change of connection from 2G to 3G / wifi to 3G with no break
- KNX switching points can be configured on the dashboard
- Timeout after 60 seconds with camera observation
- Bug fixes and other minor improvements: Switch actuation in demo mode, setting of the ring tone volume in foreground operation, more stable app start-up behaviour etc.

Siedle App

The Siedle App for iPhone and iPad unites the strengths of two different worlds: Siedle defines the aspirations of operational safety and reliability. Apple sets the standards for operating simplicity. Together, these attributes offer mobile access to door communication on the very highest level.

Available on the App Store

The Siedle App is a system component of Siedle Access and not available for other installation systems. An integrated demo function demonstrates the possibilities even without connection to the system.

In the home, around the home or anywhere else in the world: The Siedle App monitors the threshold of your home. It receives the door call, provides a moving video image, establishes a speech connection and opens the door. Naturally with all the benefits of built-in security and every convenience, for instance a video memory.
The iPhone or iPad becomes the indoor station of the door intercom system and at the same time also the control centre for the home. The Siedle App internally establishes a connection to other Access users and permits the operation of Siedle Access control and automation functions.
The variable transmission rate which adjusts to the available bandwidth and connection quality takes care of stable connections both through the WLAN or the mobile phone network.

Model overview

Standard
The standard model of the video telephone offers intuitive and simple operation. Two rotary controllers for colour saturation and brightness regulate the reproduction of the brilliant 3.5 inch colour screen. While the monitor switches on automatically with every ring signal, the camera image can also be accessed manually at any time.
Deluxe
The deluxe model is distinguished from the standard video telephone by an integrated video memory, programmable function keys and the cross-shaped control element. This conceals an extensive range of functional features which can be easily accessed but appear only as required. Operation using a screen menu works with amazing simplicity.
