Building communication in bullet-proof glass

Frameless glass installation

Facades in glass pose a particular challenge to architects and planners. The structural elements have to be integrated into the building structure without impairing its transparent envelope. This is particularly true of building communication systems, which are generally integrated into facade elements. A new type of installation allows Siedle Steel to be integrated seamlessly into even bullet-proof glass.

Any Steel system can be installed in glass without an additional frame or any visible means of fixture. However, bullet-proof glass poses more stringent demands in terms of integration: For safety reasons, large-area interruption of these glass panes is not permitted. In this case, positioning the communication systems in a glass cut-out or as a panel between two glass elements is not possible.

To permit installation in bullet-proof glass facades, Siedle worked in cooperation with a facade manufacturer to design a fixing method which requires only small glass cut-outs positioned precisely to specification. Both the safety properties of the bullet-proof glass and the characteristic frameless appearance of the glass installation are maintained using this method
